As the seasons change, so too should our skincare and haircare routines. With spring blossoming around us, it’s the perfect time to refresh and rejuvenate your skin and hair. From gentle cleansers to nourishing hair oils, here are the beauty essentials you need to embrace the season’s radiant energy.

To demonstrate the power of an effective skincare and haircare routine, the below photo of me is 100% unedited, unfiltered, and without any face makeup (aside from eyebrow makeup and mascara). To further illustrate the power of a great at-home beauty routine, the reason why I’m sharing this is to let you in on the fact that I have not been doing any in-office treatments, getting fillers or injections, or even going to a facialist. And, I’ll share one more secret (if you promise not to tell anyone)… I’m over 40!

What you see here is the result of daily and weekly skincare and haircare, combining a basic 4-step skincare regimen (cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, and protect) and lots of hydrating products for my hair. In addition to being a beauty and self-care devotee, I love to test the efficacy of beauty products, especially those that are non-toxic, natural, and contain good-for-you beauty-boosting ingredients. So, many of the beauty products featured in today’s guide are EWG-verified, natural, or non-toxic.

90s Supermodel Inspired Hairstyle Tutorial

STEP 1: Brush your dry hair straight with a flat brush. This will help to detangle and smooth the hair follicle.

STEP 2: Apply a small amount of moisturizing hair oil (I’m a fan of this lightweight, yet hydrating, hair oil) all over your hair, starting from the mid-shaft through the ends. Make sure to evenly coat the strands of hair, so that it smooths the cuticles. This will help your hair look shinier, healthier, and will also help to protect it from heat damage.

STEP 3: Using hot rollers, taking small sections of hair (starting with the crown and front sections), roll the roller up on a horizontal angle, and secure with a roller pin. Allow the rollers to set in your hair for 5-10 minutes. Then unroll each section, allow the hair to cool for 1-2 minutes, and then tousle with your fingers. This will help to separate the curls (making them look more natural), and will help to add volume and fullness to your hairstyle.

I’ve been using hot rollers since I was a kid (when my mom used to style my hair). While curling irons and flat irons have become popular in recent years, one of the main reasons why I still love hot rollers is that it tends to be gentler on the hair. What is the Clubhouse app?

Similar to a live radio show with a host(s) and guest speakers, Clubhouse enables listeners from around the world to listen to each show’s live broadcast. Plus (and here’s the fun part!), it allows audience members to ask questions and literally join in on the conversation. That means you get the chance to ask your favorite celebs or industry icons a question and say hello, in real-time!

Just last week alone, I was “hanging out” in chatrooms with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, best-selling author Marie Forleo, “The Shark” Daymond John, Jeanine Lobell (Founder of Stila Cosmetics), and more.

Unlike other social media networks (that flood our feeds with images or videos), Clubhouse acts differently. Each person has their profile photo with their attached bio. I tend to think of Clubhouse as a “LinkedIn meets Live Radio”. While it can be used for leisure and recreation, it also offers great business networking and brand-building opportunities. The ability to connect with and join real-time conversations is incredibly powerful, especially given our virtual world these days. It’s a great way to learn expert advice, tap into people’s vast knowledge and experience, and connect with like-minded people who share similar interests.

The best part is – you can find all types of Clubhouse chats happening at any moment. From beauty, fashion, and wellness to business, technology, and more – there are groups and chats on all types of topics. So, that means you can spend time popping in and out of “rooms” to hear (or join in on) conversations about a variety of interesting subjects.

Clubhouse Beauty Secrets

As an avid beauty lover, I especially enjoy listening to and learning from the beauty experts in Clubhouse. During a recent chat called “The Beauty Pioneers” (hosted by The Beauty Club, a popular group on the app), celebrity hairstylist Sam McKnight discussed his experience working backstage at Fashion Week, styling celebrities, and launching his line of hair styling products, Hair by Sam McKnight. His brand of hair styling products is sold online at retailers like Net-A-Porter, Selfridges, and Violet Grey.

As shared on his website, “Celebrated session hairstylist, Sam McKnight, is the hairdresser of all hairdressers. McKnight has collaborated with some of the world’s most prominent photographers including Patrick Demarchelier, Mario Testino, and Nick Knight.  A long-time stylist for the late Princess Diana, McKnight was the creative behind her iconic short, slicked-back hairstyle in the now-famous 1990 Demarchelier shoot for British Vogue, a partnership that led to him becoming her personal hairstylist for seven years.”

Since his product line features mostly dry shampoo, texturizing sprays, and hairspray, I asked him to share his pro tips on how to take care of our hair. I prefaced my question by stating that, while we all love using these products (for convenience), research shows that too much hair product on our scalps can cause clogged pores, which leads to unhealthy hair. So, how do we best use these styling products, while still caring for our hair? Here’s what he had to say…

Pro Haircare Tips from Celebrity Hairstylist Sam McKnight

• Only use dry shampoo on occasion, as a quick-fix.
• Try to wash the dry shampoo out of your hair as soon as possible after using it.
• Dry shampoo should not be used daily or too regularly, as this can clog pores on the scalp.
• Instead of spraying the dry shampoo directly onto your roots, spray it onto a brush first (ex. boar bristle brush).
• Use scalp-boosting products, such as a clarifying shampoo and scalp tonic (weekly).
• These products can help prevent build-up and cleanse the scalp of product residue.
• Sam recommends a brand called Act+Acre, which creates award-winning scalp detox treatments.
